Man allegedly took train to Chicago for fentanyl that killed buyer who paid for his Uber rides in Crystal Lake
A McHenry man is accused of taking the train to Chicago to get fentanyl for a Crystal Lake man who paid for his Uber rides to and from Metra stations, then delivering the drugs that killed him, prosecutors said. David O. Harper, a 36-year-old McHenry man, has been charged with drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony. He allegedly traveled to Chicago to obtain fentanyl for a Crystal Lake man who paid for his Uber rides to and from Metra stations, before delivering the drugs that killed him. The victim was found dead inside his residence on January 28, 2025, with small bags containing fentanyl in his possession. Harper allegedly delivered at least one gram but less than 15 grams of a substance containing fentanyl to the man, who injected a portion of it. The charges follow a Crystal lake Police Department investigation into the man's death. McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb granted a petition to detain Harper pending trial, stating his release poses a real and present threat to the safety of the community.
