Are you registered to vote? How Chicago area residents can check
The 2026 Illinois general election is a week out and many are marking off registering to vote from their to-do list to ensure they can mark a ballot. The 2026 Illinois general election is set to take place on Nov. 3, with many voters registering for the automatic registration of voters at Secretary of State’s Office locations across the state. The Illinois State Board of Elections offers a registration lookup tool on their website, allowing users to enter their first and last name, birthday, and zip code. The city of Chicago also offers a voter registration search tool, allowing residents to view a sample ballot and check their vote status by mail. Despite online voter registration closing, there are still ways to register, including on Election Day, through grace period voter registration. To vote, voters must show two forms of identification and cast their ballot immediately.
