We were in a particularly disastrous situation, where we were not in a family with money, but that we needed to immediately hire an immigration lawyer. We received an introduction from a local organization supporting immigration.
I will not explain the details, but I paid 10,000 dollars more than the lawyer I think is the best in Chicago. Unfortunately, the lawyer we hired made a mistake and then told us to fix her mistake. She also arbitrarily charged high fees for email, phone and taxi.
The worst case was that I knew we were in a desperate situation and we were in trouble.
