An unidentified man was found dead early Thursday morning in South Shore’s Rainbow Beach Park near a city water treatment station, according to Chicago police.

The man was found unresponsive with a head injury at the park in the 3300 block of Cheltenham Place, around 5:20 a.m., according to police. The area sits next to the Eugene Sawyer Water Purification Plant.

The man, who remained unidentified Thursday evening, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Police said the death was being investigated as a homicide, but offered no motive.

No one was in custody.
