Rain and snow, wind gusts over 50 mph impact Chicago area as temperatures plummet
The temperature dropped from 56 degrees Sunday afternoon to 14 degrees early Monday morning at O'Hare International Airport. Temperatures in the Chicago area fell up to 50 degrees over 12 hours, with wind gusts reaching over 50 mph and a wintry mix of rain and snow creating hazardous road conditions. The National Weather Service attributed this to warmer air pushing north and an influx of arctic air from Canada. Subzero wind chills remained in the area as snow showers decreased. A wind advisory remains in effect for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana until noon. The next chance of snowfall is New Year's Eve.
